can you resolve conflicts on 2715 please

yesterday·10m

I've resolved the conflicts on #2715 and committed the merge locally. Nothing is pushed yet: mise run check is still running, and I'll push to the github remote once it passes.

Main had rewritten the same checkpoint upload code (new manual push policy, refs pushed at the exact commit that was read). So I took main's version as the base and rebuilt the PR's features on top of it:

  • Upload batches: the chunked upload, the halving split for one bad ref, the per-ref retry and the time limits now work on main's new ref type. Main's handling of a ref that changed during recovery (not counted as a failure) is kept.
  • Pre-push hook: main's first-push policy question and policy check run first. The background hand-off only happens after the policy allows uploads, and the upload worker checks the policy again itself.
  • entire checkpoint push (new on main) now waits for a running background upload, the same way the migration push already did.
  • entire status and the docs show both main's push policy and the PR's background-upload state.
  • Tests: I updated main's tests to the PR's flush function and the chunk tests to the new ref type.

Main also removed the trail and runner commands from the root command list, so the merge drops them there. I didn't check where main registers trail now; the build passes.

I made one change beyond the conflicts: I moved the status JSON sync fields into a small helper, because runStatusJSON failed the complexity gate.

Checked so far: the build passes, the strategy unit tests pass, and the complexity gate is clean against main.

yesterday·11.4s

The full check failed on one lint error: a struct in manual_commit_push.go mixed pointer and value method receivers. I fixed it and mise run check is running again. If it passes, I'll commit the fix and the status helper and push to the github remote.

yesterday·6m

The conflicts on #2715 are resolved and pushed. GitHub now shows the PR as mergeable; it's still blocked on approvals, and CI is running.

Main had rewritten the same checkpoint upload code (new manual push policy, refs pushed at the exact commit that was read). I took main's version as the base and rebuilt the PR's features on top of it:

  • Uploads: the chunked upload, the split that isolates one bad ref, the per-ref retry and the time limits all use main's new ref type now. Main's rule that a ref changed mid-recovery isn't a failure is kept.
  • Pre-push hook: main's first-push policy question and policy check run first. Checkpoints are handed to the background worker only when uploads are allowed, and the worker checks the policy again.
  • entire checkpoint push (new on main) now waits for a running background upload, the same way the migration push already did.
  • entire status and the docs now cover both main's push policy and the background upload.

Main also dropped the trail and runner commands from the root command list, and the merge keeps that. I didn't check where trail is registered now; the build passes.

Beyond the conflicts, I made these fixes:

  • I moved the status JSON sync fields into a small helper, because runStatusJSON failed the complexity gate.
  • Fallout from main's changes: a method-receiver lint error, a missing ledger entry for the background upload command in main's config-check test, and one SSH test of main's that now also expects the PR's ConnectTimeout=60.
  • The one High trail finding was real and is fixed and resolved. The retry for GitHub's back-to-back-push rejection never matched the output format the checkpoint push actually gets (git's --porcelain output), so it never fired.

Lint and the complexity gate pass, and the strategy tests pass. Two tests fail in the full run: TestProbeConfigDir_AsksClaude and TestHandlePush_RealSendPack_ShallowRepoAmendsAgent. Both also fail on a clean main checkout and this PR doesn't change their code, so they look like local-environment failures.

Two older trail findings are still open, both from before this merge and about the background worker:

  • Medium: when a ref is blocked for its content (push protection, a ruleset), the background path loses the actual reason and unblock link. The next push only shows "checkpoint ref push failed".
  • Low: a failed entire trail create push can drop an earlier push's pending upload request.

Should I fix those two next?

yes fix those. Also, while you do that. please remove the first commit as its own pr to fix 2986 issue please

yesterday·4m

I've fixed both findings on #2715 with tests; mise run check is running before I commit and push.

  • Medium, the reason a checkpoint was blocked got lost: the upload now saves the actionable text it printed (the remote's rejection with the unblock URL, or the SSH / checkpoint-remote hint). The background worker stores it, and the next push prints it under "Last background checkpoint upload stopped". It's replaced on every run, so repeated runs don't stack copies. entire trail create uploads in the foreground and already prints it live, so it doesn't show it twice.
  • Low, a failed trail create dropped an earlier upload request: when a new upload request is merged into a pending one, the merged request now keeps the earliest timestamp. A failed trail create push then only discards a request that is entirely its own.

The #2986 split-out PR is being built in parallel by a separate agent in its own worktree. It ports the first commit onto current main as a new PR that fixes #2986; #2715 keeps that work until the new PR merges, then shrinks on the next main merge.

yesterday·2.7s

The split-out agent is still running its own checks. My mise run check for #2715 is still running too.

yesterday·29.7s

Both findings are fixed in commit b79a74e284, pushed to #2715 and resolved on the trail. Lint and the complexity gate pass. The only unit test failures are the same two that also fail on a clean main checkout. Integration and canary tests didn't run after those failures; CI will cover them.

I'll check the trail for new findings once its review of this push lands. The #2986 split-out agent is still running its checks.

yesterday·2.0s

The agent splitting out the #2986 PR is still waiting on its mise run check. I'll report back once it has opened the PR.

yesterday·2.1s

The #2986 fix is now open as its own PR, #3018, branched from main. CI is running on it, and the agent will check the trail findings once CI settles. I'll report its result when it finishes.

yesterday·8m

The new trail review on #2715 raised 6 findings. I fixed the important one in commit 277f6d35ac and pushed it. It was a privacy gap: the background upload ran the privacy filter (OPF), then waited up to minutes for the user's push to finish. Checkpoints committed during that wait were uploaded unfiltered. The filter now runs after the wait, right before the queue is read, and a test checks the order. Two findings reported this, and both are resolved.

The other four are open, and the failing "Entire Gates" check on #2715 presumably reflects them. Three are refactors or a split, and I'd like your call before taking them on:

  1. Medium, duplicate process code: git_push_wait*.go re-implements the per-OS process lookup that the existing proclive package already provides. proclive predates this branch, so the duplication is real. Switching to it is a moderate refactor across the per-OS files.
  2. Medium, duplicate SSH command logic: the SSH-variant handling in remote/git.go copies how gitremote.EffectiveSSHCommand resolves the SSH command. The fix is to extend gitremote to also return the variant and call it.
  3. Medium, scope: the PR is titled as bounding the pre-push upload but adds the whole background-upload subsystem. With the chunking now split out, that's mostly a question of retitling #2715 and rewriting its description. Splitting it further would be a bigger job.
  4. Low: the upload pass captures its output by reassigning the package-level stderrWriter instead of passing a writer through.

Should I do 1, 2 and 4, and retitle #2715 for 3?

#3018 (the #2986 split) is still with the agent: it's running checks on its fixes for that PR's findings.

yesterday·2.3s

#3018, the separate PR for #2986, has a new commit with fixes for the review findings on that PR, and CI is running on it. The agent working on it will report once CI and the findings are clean.

On #2715, the four open findings still need your call: should I do the two duplicate-code refactors and the stderrWriter fix, and retitle #2715 for the scope finding?

yesterday·7.9s

The fix for #2986 is now its own PR: #3018, trail 2755 (change cli/1766). It's branched from main, not stacked on #2715, and its body says "Fixes #2986". Nothing is merged.

  • What it is: the first commit of #2715 ported onto current main, +943/-161 across 10 files. It pushes checkpoint refs in chunks under a time limit, and stops fast on an unreachable remote. The SSH connect timeout under the hook is 60s, matching #2715.
  • The #2986 part: chunks of 200. A test checks that a full chunk's git push command line stays under Windows' 32,767-character limit.
  • Left out: everything #2715's later commits added (chunk-size adaptation, the halving split, per-chunk timeouts, the push-race retry, the background worker).
  • Status: mise run check passes. CI is green apart from Entire Gates, which waits on trail approvals, and there are no open trail findings. The first review raised four, all fixed. The one that mattered: in an explicit push, a slow failed batch used up the per-ref retry's time, so those refs were never retried. The retry now gets its own time.
  • Not addressed: the issue's smaller point, where checkpoint pushes fall back to the code repository's URL when the checkpoint remote's URL can't be resolved. The PR body says so.

#2715 doesn't need a force-push to drop that commit. After #3018 merges, merging main into #2715 again absorbs it the same way today's merge did. Expect conflicts in the SSH-variant code: #3018 now reads the SSH command the way git does (quoted Windows paths), and #2715 has its own plink handling there.

On #2715, the four open findings still need your call. Should I fold the duplicate process code into proclive, reuse gitremote for the SSH command, pass a writer instead of swapping stderrWriter, and retitle the PR for the scope finding?

idk if copilot comments are relevant but i see there are no findings on the trail and alos have you tested this in new binary where you tested the useres reported issue?

yesterday·7m

Yes, I've now tested the reported scenario with built binaries, and #3018 fixes it. Two of the Copilot/Cursor comments were relevant and are fixed; they aren't pushed yet.

Real-binary test. I set up a scratch repo with 795 queued checkpoint refs (the number in the report) and a local bare remote. I'm on a Mac, so I put a wrapper in front of git that refuses any command line over 32,767 characters, the Windows limit. Then I ran the pre-push hook with each binary:

BinaryResultTime
main (before the fix)Full batch fails, falls back to one ref at a time, runs out of its 2-minute budget: 669 of 795 pushed, 126 left queued121s
#30184 pushes (200/200/200/195 refs), all 795 pushed, queue empty, remote matches local2s

Main reproduces the reporter's failure exactly. They got through only 30 refs because their remote is over the network; mine is a local path. The one difference from real Windows is that my wrapper fails with an ordinary git error rather than Windows' process-start error, but the path the code takes afterwards is the same. I haven't run it on a real Windows machine.

The Copilot/Cursor comments on #3018:

  • Fallback budget started before an explicit push's batch: real, and already fixed in the earlier commit.
  • Landed refs ignored when a later chunk fails: real. If an early chunk landed and a later one failed, the pre-push treated the whole push as failed, so it skipped recording the newly chosen sync remote. Fixed by acting on the number of refs that landed; I ported the test from #2715.
  • A 200-ref chunk that never fits the budget on a slow link: real. Every push would cut the same chunk and nothing would ever land. I ported #2715's adaptive chunk size: a chunk cut before anything landed shrinks the next one to a quarter, and a clean push grows it back. A chunk cut by the budget now goes to the back of the queue instead of being retried on a spent budget. Three tests ported.

mise run check is running on #3018 now. If it passes, I'll push, check the trail's findings, and reply.

but we still reproduced with the wrap?

yesterday·13.0s

Yes. The failure on main was caused by the wrapper hitting the Windows limit, not something else. Main's run logged:

That 75,574-character command line matches the issue's number (75,607 for 795 refs). Everything after it matches the report too: the per-ref retry, then the 2-minute budget running out with refs left queued.

The #3018 binary ran behind the same wrapper and never hit the limit: no "too long" in its logs or the git trace. Each 200-ref push stays around 19k characters, under 32,767, so all 795 landed in 4 pushes.

The wrapper is what makes this reproducible here. Without it, main would pass on macOS too, because macOS allows much longer command lines.

yesterday·8m

The two real Copilot/Cursor issues on #3018 are fixed and pushed in a4778d7b6e: a push where only some chunks landed now still records the sync remote, and the chunk size now adapts on a slow link. CI is running.

The full check found two older tests still expecting a ref-by-ref retry after the time budget runs out. That retry no longer happens. I updated both to match #2715's versions. Lint is clean and the strategy and checkpoint tests pass.

The PR description now covers both fixes and the real-binary test against the emulated Windows limit, and the diff is +1179/-174 across 11 files.

I'll check CI and the trail findings when they finish.

yesterday·4m

The trail review raised two Low findings on #3018; both were real, and both are fixed in d6a87a3363, pushed and resolved. CI on the previous commit passed everything except Entire Gates, which is waiting on approvals. CI hasn't finished on this new commit yet.

  • Chunk size could get stuck small: after a few one-off stalls, the chunk size only grew back once a push emptied the whole queue. A large backlog could then drain a few refs per push for a long time. It now grows back after any push in which every chunk it tried landed. I added a test.
  • Docs were out of date: both docs now describe the stop when the time budget runs out, moving the cut chunk to the back of the queue, and the chunk size remembered per clone.

Lint is clean and the strategy and docs tests pass.

#2715 has the same chunk-size logic, so it has the same flaw. Do you want that fixed now too, or left for when #2715 is reconciled with main after #3018 merges? The four open refactor and scope findings on #2715 also still need your call.

yes just fix now

yesterday·5m

I've fixed it on #2715 as well (f4034aad7c, pushed). The chunk size now grows back after any push in which every chunk it tried landed. Before, it only grew back once a push emptied the whole queue. A chunk that stalled still keeps the size where it is.

There's a new test for this, and the doc line is updated. Lint is clean and the strategy tests pass.

The four older findings on #2715 are still open, waiting on your call:

  1. Reuse the existing proclive package instead of the duplicate process code in git_push_wait*.go.
  2. Reuse gitremote for the SSH command instead of the copied logic in remote/git.go.
  3. Pass a writer through instead of swapping stderrWriter during the upload.
  4. Retitle #2715, since it's now mainly the background upload rather than bounding the push.

Should I do those too?

yes

yesterday·31.6s

Three of the four #2715 findings are fixed in the working tree. Nothing is committed or pushed yet; that waits on the test run.

  • Duplicate process code: on macOS and Linux the worker now finds and fingerprints the user's git push through the existing proclive package. The separate Linux, macOS and fallback files are deleted. proclive also now treats an exited-but-unreaped (zombie) process as gone. Windows keeps its own small lookup and wait, because proclive can't inspect Windows processes. It builds for macOS, Linux and Windows.
  • Duplicate SSH logic: gitremote now does all the SSH command resolution, including the SSH variant, with one git config read. remote/git.go calls it, and its copied helpers are gone. One visible change: a GIT_SSH path is now quoted only when needed, so /usr/local/bin/custom-ssh is no longer wrapped in quotes.
  • stderrWriter swap: the worker now carries its capture writer on the context instead of swapping the global. Only the notices written during an upload are redirected, so nothing else in the process, such as entire trail create, gets swallowed.

For the fourth, the scope finding, I retitled #2715 to "feat(checkpoint): upload checkpoints in the background after the user's push". The description now says the chunked push is also split out as #3018 and will drop out after it merges. I also updated stale details there: it now describes the proclive process lookup, the push-race retry matching git's porcelain output, and the rejection reason shown on the next push.

Lint is clean. The affected test packages took over 10 minutes and are still running. Once they pass, I'll commit, push, update the trail description, resolve the four findings, and check for new ones.

yesterday·52.6s

The three refactors are committed and pushed to #2715 as 79e3052907. The four findings are resolved on the trail, and the trail's title and description now match the new PR title.

All affected tests pass, lint is clean, and the complexity gate is clean. I'm waiting on CI and the trail's next review of this push, and will fix anything new it raises.

check findings on 3018 too

yesterday·1m

#3018 had one open finding: the doc comment on the push time budget was out of date. It still said a push that runs out of time falls back to per-ref retries with no time left. It now says such a push stops and moves the cut chunk to the back of the queue. The fix is pushed (f96daac801) and the finding is resolved. #2715 had the same stale comment, so I fixed it there too (2d67a46e17).

The Copilot and Cursor comments on #3018 are all on its first commit, and those issues were fixed in later commits.

On the last completed run, #3018's only failing check was Entire Gates, which waits on approvals. Both PRs are re-running CI after these pushes. I'll check findings on both once CI finishes.

check findings again once CI is done

yesterday·3.1s

The background check is already waiting for CI on both PRs. It lists open findings on #3018 and #2715 once it finishes, and I'll go through them then.

also please always sent teh traul

yesterday·9.3s

Understood. From now on every update names each change by its change number and trail link, not the PR number. I've saved that to memory.

  • Background upload: cli/1530 (trail 2141)
  • Windows chunked-push fix: cli/1766 (trail 2755)

I'll report findings on both once CI finishes.

yesterday·7m

cli/1766, the Windows chunked-push fix, has no open findings and CI is green apart from Entire Gates (waiting on approvals).

For cli/1530, the background upload, I've added tests for all eight open findings. They're all test-coverage gaps, not bugs:

FindingWhat I added
Push-race pattern only tested against hand-written stringsA test using real git push --porcelain output from a rejected push
No test for the background_checkpoint_upload: false opt-outA settings table test, plus a check that turning it off in settings.json turns the background upload off
No test for the new entire status linesTable cases for "uploading in the background", the stop-reason line (only while refs are queued), and the JSON fields
trail create's push protocol not tested end to endMoved that sequence into strategy (RunPushThenUploadCheckpoints) so an integration test can drive a real git push with the real hook: a refused push discards its request, an accepted one has the checkpoint on the remote
Notices from the background run not testedA worker test checking a notice is saved, shown on the next push, and doesn't leak to the global writer
SSH and unreachable-remote hints not testedAssertions on the SSH hint, plus a new test for an unreachable checkpoint remote
macOS and Windows wait code never runs in CIThe macOS-specific code is gone (it uses proclive now). A new test, named so the Windows CI job selects it, covers the process lookup, start-time fingerprint and wait
No end-to-end coverage with the background upload onA canary scenario with the background upload on that waits for the worker's result, then checks the remote

Each new test passes locally. The canary scenario ran for real, about 5 seconds, for both deterministic agents.

Two coverage gaps remain:

  • Windows canary: it runs only the default checkpoint store, so it skips the new scenario. Only the Windows unit test covers that platform.
  • macOS: CI has no macOS runner. The proclive version of the wait passes on my Mac, but CI never runs it.

mise run check is running now; when it finishes I'll commit, push, resolve the eight findings, and check for new ones.

yesterday·17.1s

The full check on cli/1530 hasn't completed. Lint stopped because another lint run was already going on this machine, so the tests never ran. The complexity gate passed.

Lint and the CI tests are rerunning now. If they pass, I'll commit and push the new tests, resolve the eight findings, and check for new ones.

can you send the split one pleade

yesterday·3.4s

The split-out fix for issue #2986, the Windows command-line limit, is change cli/1766: https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2755/changes/cli/1766

It has no open findings. CI is green apart from Entire Gates, which is waiting on approvals, and nothing is merged.

and you tested this? is it ready for review?

yesterday·16m

Almost: cli/1766 is ready for review apart from one final check I'm running now. The only failing CI check is Entire Gates, which waits on approvals; there are no open findings, and the PR is mergeable and marked ready for review.

https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2755/changes/cli/1766

What's been tested:

  • Unit tests for the chunked push and its time budget, the stop on an unreachable remote, partial delivery and the adaptive chunk size. One test checks that a full chunk's command line stays under the Windows 32,767-character limit.
  • mise run check and CI pass on the head commit.
  • Real binaries against the reported case: 795 queued refs, with git wrapped to refuse command lines over 32,767 characters. Main reproduced the failure ("filename or extension is too long", 669 of 795 pushed after 121s). The branch pushed all 795 in 4 pushes in 2s.

That real-binary run used an earlier commit, and a later commit changed how the chunk size grows back. I'm rerunning the same 795-ref test against the current head before calling it ready. The machine is busy with the cli/1530 test run, so it's slower than last time.

It hasn't been run on a real Windows machine; the Windows limit is emulated by the wrapper.

can we fix https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2141/changes/cli/1530 confidence low. does it make sense without the first commit we took out

yesterday·26.4s

The real-binary test passes on the current head of cli/1766: all 795 refs pushed, the queue is empty, and the Windows limit was never hit. It took 7s this time because the machine was busy. So cli/1766 is tested and ready for review.

On cli/1530 without the first commit: no, it doesn't make sense on its own. The background worker runs the same chunked, time-limited upload that the first commit adds, and its stall handling and chunk sizing extend that code. If I pulled it out, cli/1530 would have to rebuild it, or be stacked on cli/1766, which we don't do.

The clean order is:

  1. cli/1766 gets reviewed and merged first.
  2. I merge main into cli/1530. Its diff then drops to just the background upload, so it's smaller and easier to review.

On the confidence score: I pulled it from the trail. Confidence is 70 and has been 70–78 across recent pushes. The reviewer's reasons:

held back by the timing-based tests, the lightly tested Windows/macOS process code, and the fact that no gates could be run here.

  • Windows/macOS process code: partly fixed by the eight new tests from earlier: a Windows-selected wait test and a canary scenario with the background upload on. Those aren't pushed yet; they're waiting on the lint and test rerun.
  • Timing-based tests: real. Several wait tests rely on sleeps, and I can rework them to use explicit signals.
  • Size: risk is 74 mostly because the change is big (worker, cross-process state, per-OS waits). That should drop once cli/1766 merges and its part leaves the diff.

Plan for cli/1530:

  1. Push the new tests once the rerun passes.
  2. Replace the sleep-based waits in the wait tests with explicit signals.
  3. After cli/1766 merges, merge main in so the diff is only the background upload.

Should I go ahead with 1 and 2 now?

yes i sent 1766 for review

yesterday·2m

Both steps on cli/1530 are done but not pushed yet. Lint and the affected test packages are running first.

  1. The eight coverage tests are ready. Their first full test run failed in four places, all in timing-sensitive tests outside this PR's code, while the machine was overloaded. Three of them passed three runs in a row on their own. The fourth was the cli package hitting its 10-minute limit; I haven't rerun that one, and it's in the run going now.

  2. The wait tests no longer depend on the machine's speed. Before, they asserted things like "took at least 300ms" or "finished within 2s", which can fail when the machine is slow. They now check that the wait ended after the user's push exited. The reused-PID test checks that the wait didn't hang until its deadline. The stalled-chunk test now separates the 2s chunk timeout from a 300s stall with a 2-minute bound, where it was 20s against a 30s stall. Each rewritten test passed three runs in a row.

If the run is clean, I'll commit and push, resolve the eight findings, and check for new ones and the new confidence score.

The other step is waiting on cli/1766: once it's reviewed and merged, I'll merge main into cli/1530 so its diff is only the background upload.

yesterday·36.4s

I've pushed the new tests and the rewritten timing tests to cli/1530 (b69205f51d) and resolved the eight coverage findings.

Before pushing: lint is clean, the integration tests for the background upload and git push pass, and the other changed tests passed on their own. The full cli package suite that hit its time limit earlier didn't print a result in this run, so CI is the first full run of it.

I'm waiting on CI, then I'll check for new findings and the updated confidence score.

CI on cli/1530 had one real failure, now fixed and pushed (81741ba0bc). CI is rerunning.

The failing test was the new Windows wait test I added. The wait itself worked on Windows: it waited about 114ms for the push to exit. The test then failed during cleanup. A shared cache in the CLI (osroot.Shared) keeps a handle open on the test's temp directory, and Windows can't delete a directory with an open handle. The test now releases that handle before cleanup. I can't run Windows locally, so this rerun is the first real check of the fix.

The test failure was only the summary job reporting test-windows. Every other check passed apart from Entire Gates, which waits on approvals.

When CI finishes I'll report any new findings and the updated confidence score.

5h ago·44.8s

CI on cli/1530 is now green, including test-windows with the cleanup fix. The only failing check is Entire Gates, which has no approvals yet. There are no open trail findings.

The confidence score still shows 70, but that's out of date. All four scores were last evaluated on 006d19910e, the head from before I merged main and made today's fixes. None of today's eight commits, through 81741ba0bc, have been scored yet. The quoted reasons ("timing-based tests", "lightly tested Windows/macOS process code") describe that older head.

Since then the PR has:

  • the main merge, with conflicts resolved;
  • the privacy-filter ordering fix and the rejection-reason fix;
  • the proclive and SSH-resolver refactors;
  • eight new coverage tests, including a Windows CI test and a canary scenario with the background upload on;
  • wait tests that check ordering instead of elapsed time.

I can't trigger a re-score from here. I'll check again when the trail reviews the new head.

The remaining open item is merging main into cli/1530 once cli/1766 merges, so its diff drops to just the background upload.

This session is being continued from a previous conversation that ran out of context. The summary below covers the earlier portion of the conversation.

Done as PR #3018 = cli/1766, trail 2755: https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2755/changes/cli/1766. - Verify with a real binary, address Copilot comments, and check findings on both. - Do the refactors and retitle 1530. - Improve 1530's low confidence score. - Always include trail/change links in replies. - The user sent 1766 for review. - Plan for 1530: after 1766 merges, merge main into 1530 so its diff is only the background upload.
  1. Key Technical Concepts:

    • Entire CLI (Go/Cobra), git-refs checkpoint backend, and its push queue (JSONL, pinned (ref, hash) entries).
    • Chunked batch push under checkpointFlushBudget, with adaptive chunk size (PushQueue.ChunkSizeHint), halving split and per-ref fallback with recovery CAS (errCheckpointRefSuperseded).
    • Background upload worker entire __checkpoint_upload:
      • UploadCoordinator lock/state, UploadRequest, UploadResult{Announcement, Error, Detail};
      • UserPush waits (waitForUserPushes);
      • GitHub push-race retry, matched against --porcelain output.
    • Manual push policy from main (automaticCheckpointDelivery).
    • OPF decision carried from the hook to the worker; the gate runs after the wait.
    • proclive (process liveness, zombie = gone), osroot.Shared / Forget.
    • gitremote.ResolveSSH.
    • Trail findings and monitor scores (entire api --to cell /api/v1/trails/gh/entireio/cli/1530 → .monitors).
    • Complexity gate, mise run check, e2e Vogon canary.
  2. Files and Code Sections (2715 worktree unless noted):

    • cmd/entire/cli/strategy/manual_commit_push.go
      • flushCheckpointRefsQueue(..., opts flushOptions) (flushResult, error), flushCheckpointRefs / flushCheckpointRefsWith.
      • checkpointFlushResult{pushed, changed, failed, bounds flushResult} with summary() and markUnsettled().
      • finishIndividualRetry, retryRefsIndividually and recordFailure (with an sshAuthFailed flag).
      • settleBatchOnly and stopOnBudgetCut return the detail text.
      • reportUnpushableDestination returns (detail string, unpushable bool).
      • waitForBackgroundUpload(ctx, repo) (func(), error).
      • uploadCheckpointRefsOnPrePush runs after announceCheckpointPushPolicy.
      • adaptChunkSize grows the size when len(batch.failed)==0 && len(batch.stalled)==0 && batch.landed>0.
      • flushResult gained a detail field.
    • cmd/entire/cli/strategy/push_common.go
      • main's version plus: chunking, the race retry (porcelain regex + human-form alternate), checkpointRemoteHint(target) string, the nonInteractiveSSHAuthHint const, and an updated budget comment.
    • cmd/entire/cli/strategy/checkpoint_upload_worker.go
      • RunPushThenUploadCheckpoints(ctx, cmd *exec.Cmd, remote string, w io.Writer) error.
      • Seams uploadPassWait / uploadPassOPFGate; the OPF gate runs after the wait.
      • withNoticeWriter(ctx, &printed); result.Detail = res.detail.
      • reportBackgroundUpload prints Detail.
    • cmd/entire/cli/strategy/manual_commit_hooks.go: withNoticeWriter / noticeWriter(ctx). Converted call sites:
      • commitCapturedSyncRemote
      • hintGatedCheckpointSync
      • warnIgnoredPushURLs
      • warnOPFCheckpointRefsWithheld
      • warnIgnoredCheckpointRemote
    • git_push_wait.go / git_push_wait_unix.go / git_push_wait_windows.go
      • pushingGit() (proclive.Identity, bool), gitProcessIdentity(pid), isLiveGitProcess(id), waitProcessExit(ctx, id).
      • linux/darwin/other files deleted.
    • cmd/entire/cli/proclive/proc_linux.go and proc_darwin.go: a zombie returns errProcessGone; test added in proc_linux_test.go.
    • cmd/entire/cli/checkpoint/upload_state.go
      • UserPush{Process proclive.Identity; At}.
      • UploadResult.Detail, cleared in ClearReported.
      • Request keeps the earliest RequestedAt.
    • cmd/entire/cli/gitremote/repository.go: ResolveSSH, SSHInvocation, gitConfigSSH (a single --get-regexp call).
    • cmd/entire/cli/checkpoint/remote/git.go: resolveSSH uses gitremote.
    • cmd/entire/cli/status.go: setCheckpointSync and writeUploadStoppedLine.
    • cmd/entire/cli/trail_cmd.go: pushBranchToRemote calls strategy.RunPushThenUploadCheckpoints.
    • Tests:
      • git_push_wait_test.go: stopLater helper, TestUserPushWait_WindowsAndUnix with osroot.Forget cleanup, TestIsPushRaceRejection_RealPorcelainOutput, ordering-based waits.
      • checkpoint_upload_worker_test.go: notice capture, setting opt-out, OPF order, detail on next push.
      • refs_push_bounds_test.go: SSH and unreachable detail, chunk-size tests.
      • status_test.go, settings_checkpoint_remote_test.go.
      • integration_test/background_checkpoint_upload_test.go: TestRunPushThenUploadCheckpoints.
      • e2e/tests/background_upload_test.go.
    • Docs: docs/architecture/ref-checkpoint-backend.md, docs/development/checkpoint-implementation.md.
    • 3018 worktree (.claude/worktrees/agent-ae3a095e89a90295c): the port, plus partial delivery, adaptive chunking, regrowth and the docs. Head f96daac801.
  3. Errors and fixes:

    • Merge conflicts: rebuilt push_common.go and manual_commit_push.go from main's version and re-ported the PR's code.
    • The recvcheck, ledger, ssh-test and complexity-gate failures noted above.
    • A Python edit failed (substring not found) on the remote git.go refactor; redone in a second pass.
    • The full cli package hit its 10-minute timeout under -race; three other timing tests failed under machine load. Those three passed when rerun alone; CI was green.
    • A golangci-lint "parallel run" collision; retried.
    • testifylint flagged require.True(strings.Contains); switched to require.Contains.
    • The recorded-meanwhile test was wrongly restructured (it recorded before the wait started); fixed with a goroutine wait and a 2s settle.
    • Windows CI: TempDir cleanup failed because the cached osroot.Shared handle stayed open; fixed with osroot.Forget(dir) in a cleanup.
    • In the real-binary test, the branch copy initially pushed to the main copy's remote (cp -R copied the remote path); redone with a fresh setup.
    • User feedback: always send trail/change links (memory updated). Never merge. Force-push needs the user.
  4. Problem Solving:

    • Issue #2986 verified with a shim that emulates the Windows argv limit.
    • Monitor scores on 1530 are stale: evaluated at head 006d19910e (pre-merge); the current head is 81741ba0bc.
    • Entire Gates fails because there are no approvals on trail 2141.
  5. All user messages:

    • "can you resolve conflicts on 2715 please"
    • "yes fix those. Also, while you do that. please remove the first commit as its own pr to fix 2986 issue please"
    • "idk if copilot comments are relevant but i see there are no findings on the trail and alos have you tested this in new binary where you tested the useres reported issue?"
    • "but we still reproduced with the wrap?"
    • "yes just fix now"
    • "yes"
    • "check findings on 3018 too"
    • "check findings again once CI is done"
    • "also please always sent teh traul"
    • "can you send the split one pleade"
    • "and you tested this? is it ready for review?"
    • "can we fix https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2141/changes/cli/1530 confidence low. does it make sense without the first commit we took out"
    • "yes i sent 1766 for review"
    • "proceed" (twice)
  6. Pending Tasks:

    • Report the 1530 status, including that the monitor scores haven't been re-evaluated since the pre-merge head. Trigger or wait for a re-evaluation if possible.
    • After cli/1766 merges: merge main into cli/1530 (merge, not force-push), resolve conflicts (expect SSH-variant conflicts), rerun checks, findings and scores.
    • Never merge without approval. Always include change numbers and trail links.
  7. Current Work:

    • Just pushed 81741ba0bc to cli/1530 (the Windows TempDir fix). CI is green except Entire Gates; no open findings.
    • Checked the monitors: confidence 70, risk 74, drift 24, security 22, all with headSha 006d19910e (stale, pre-merge).
    • Checked Entire Gates: the link is https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2141/changes/cli/1530, and entire trail approvals cli/1530 shows "No approvals on trail #2141".
  8. Optional Next Step: Report to the user, with trail links, on cli/1530 (https://entire.com/gh/entireio/-/trails/2141/changes/cli/1530):

    • CI green except Entire Gates, which fails for lack of approvals.
    • No open findings.
    • The confidence score of 70 is still the evaluation of the pre-merge head 006d19910e, so the new tests and fixes haven't been scored yet.

Then ask whether they want to trigger a re-evaluation or wait. Merge main into 1530 only after cli/1766 merges.

I've fixed the one medium finding on cli/1766, and mise run check is running before I commit and push.

01M6NNHG7B02 (medium) — fixed. Explicit pushes (entire checkpoint push and migration) picked up the chunk size that slow pre-push runs had shrunk. With it at 1, 40 refs took 40 separate pushes instead of 1. Explicit pushes have no time limit, so they now always use the full chunk size and leave the remembered size alone. I added a regression test; it fails without the fix and passes with it.

The two low findings are deliberate tradeoffs. I've documented both in ref-checkpoint-backend.md and will mark them resolved:

  • 01M6NNHTGMFK: the ConnectTimeout=60 we add overrides a value set in ~/.ssh/config. One set in GIT_SSH_COMMAND or core.sshCommand is kept. Honouring the config value would mean running ssh -G <host> on every push.
  • 01M6NNHN46KR: on Linux, an unreachable HTTPS remote reports "budget exhausted" instead of "Couldn't reach". The kernel connect timeout (~127s) is longer than the 2-minute budget, and git has no HTTP connect timeout to shorten it. The reviewer only reproduced this on macOS with a 3-second budget, not on Linux, and suggested documenting it.

The other 7 findings were already resolved. The only failing check is Entire Gates, which is waiting for approvals.

continue cli/1766 findings fix: check mise run check result, commit, lint, push, resolve findings

3h ago·35m

mise run check hasn't finished on cli/1766, so nothing is committed or pushed yet. Lint passed with 0 issues. The unit and integration tests are still running on a heavily loaded machine.

Once tests pass, I'll commit the chunk-size fix and push. Then I'll resolve the three findings and re-check the trail.

2h ago·8m

The fix for cli/1766 is committed, but the push hasn't finished yet. It's stuck behind the slow pre-push step on a heavily loaded machine.

  • Fix: explicit pushes (entire checkpoint push, migration) now send full-size chunks. They no longer pick up the smaller chunk size that slow pre-push runs had saved. A new test fails without the fix and passes with it.
  • Checks: lint is clean. mise run check had five timing-sensitive test failures with the load average around 84, and all five pass when run on their own.
  • Findings: I've marked the medium one as fixed. I resolved the two low ones as accepted tradeoffs, now documented in ref-checkpoint-backend.md. Strictly, I resolved the fixed one before the push landed.

Once the push lands, I'll check CI and look for new findings on the new commit.
