Work directly in:

/home/kernel-kain/Documents/Github/unfinished-business

Execution rules:

  1. Work only on the main branch.
  2. Begin with:
    • git status
    • git switch main
    • git pull --ff-only origin main
  3. Preserve all unrelated changes, untracked files, and existing stashes. Do not apply, delete, or commit .backboard/, .unfinished-business/, .env files, credentials, or the existing stash unless this phase explicitly requires it.
  4. Read the relevant source, tests, AGENTS.md files, and documentation before editing.
  5. Implement only the phase described below. Do not begin the next phase.
  6. Maintain backward compatibility with existing saved projects through explicit migrations.
  7. Do not expose provider secrets, prompts containing secrets, or private model output in logs, telemetry, screenshots, or error messages.
  8. Add or update tests for every behavior changed.
  9. After implementation, update the relevant project documentation, including:
    • README.md when user-facing behavior changes
    • docs/ARCHITECTURE.md
    • docs/DECISIONS.md
    • docs/IMPLEMENTATION_PLAN.md
    • docs/EVIDENCE.md
    • docs/RELEASE_NOTES.md
    • any phase-specific setup or integration documentation
  10. Mark the phase complete in the implementation plan only after its acceptance criteria pass.
  11. Run all relevant verification. At minimum:
  • npm run typecheck
  • npm test
  • npm run build Run visual, security, budget, contract, migration, or integration tests when affected.
  1. Review the final git diff for accidental files, secrets, debugging output, and unrelated changes.
  2. Commit with the commit message specified by this phase.
  3. Push the commit to origin/main. Never force-push.
  4. If the push is rejected because origin/main advanced, fetch and rebase safely, resolve only scoped conflicts, rerun verification, and push normally.
  5. Finish with:
  • implementation summary
  • changed files
  • documentation updated
  • tests and results
  • known limitations
  • commit hash
  • push result

Do not stop for ordinary implementation decisions. Stop only if there is a destructive conflict, missing required credential, irreconcilable remote conflict, or a decision that would materially change the product’s intended behavior.

I still don't have the phase text in my context — the message I received ends at the execution rules ("...commit message specified by this phase") with no scope, acceptance criteria, or commit message attached. Nothing new appeared in the repo either (git status still shows only the untracked .backboard/).

Can you paste the Upgrade Phase 4 description directly into chat? Even a compact version works:

  1. Outcome / scope (what the phase must change)
  2. Acceptance criteria
  3. Exact commit message
  4. Any phase-specific docs or integration notes

Alternatively, give me a file path and I'll read it from disk. As soon as I have it, I'll proceed with implementation, tests, docs, verification, commit, and push without further stops.

Implement Phase 4: improve section depth, formatting, and revision behavior.

Objectives:

  • Generate meaningful section-specific content.
  • Turn change requests into generated revision candidates.
  • Show the proposed update before it replaces the current draft.
  • Render generated content with safe, readable formatting.

Implementation requirements:

  1. Define content contracts for every Architect section.
  2. Each contract should specify:
    • required topics;
    • useful level of detail;
    • dependencies;
    • risks;
    • decisions;
    • acceptance criteria where relevant.
  3. Do not enforce quality by word count alone.
  4. Replace direct raw-text section replacement with this workflow:
    • user submits requested changes;
    • Architect receives the current section and request;
    • candidate version is generated;
    • candidate is validated;
    • user sees a diff and summary of changes;
    • user accepts, requests another revision, or discards;
    • only accepted candidates become the current draft.
  5. Keep approval separate from accepting a revision.
  6. Mark downstream approvals stale when an accepted change affects them.
  7. Add side-by-side and unified diff behavior appropriate to screen size.
  8. Render generated Markdown safely:
    • headings;
    • paragraphs;
    • lists;
    • emphasis;
    • links;
    • tables;
    • code.
  9. Sanitize all generated content and disallow arbitrary HTML/script execution.
  10. Improve reading width, typography, spacing, and empty/loading states.
  11. Add tests for candidate creation, rejection, acceptance, stale approvals, sanitization, and Markdown rendering.

Acceptance criteria:

  • “Request changes” never immediately overwrites an approved or draft section.
  • The user can inspect the complete revised version first.
  • Generated sections satisfy their content contracts.
  • Markdown is readable and safe.
  • Section versions and approvals remain auditable.

feat(architect): add reviewable generated revisions

17h ago·0.0s

Implementation summary

Phase 4 is complete. Architect output is now a reviewable candidate rather than a direct overwrite:

  • Added content contracts for all eight Architect sections: required topics, detail guidance, dependencies, risk/decision requirements, acceptance criteria, and required headings. Validation is structural and topic-based, not word-count-based.
  • Added schema v7 candidate revisions with base version/hash, summary, requested change, decision time, and PENDING/ACCEPTED/REJECTED/SUPERSEDED status.
  • Replaced raw-text section replacement with the workflow: request changes → Architect generates candidate → contract validation → full revision + diff review → accept / request another / discard.
  • Acceptance applies only when the section still matches the candidate’s base version/hash, sets the section to DRAFT, and marks its own approval plus transitive dependent approvals STALE. Approval remains a separate exact-version action.
  • Added a safe Markdown renderer for headings, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, links, tables, and code. Raw HTML/script is rendered as text; unsafe link protocols are reduced to labels.
  • Added shared unified and side-by-side diff views, with wide-screen side-by-side default and narrow-screen stacked layout.
  • Improved section selection, pending badges, contract details, revision/approval history, reading width, typography, spacing, and empty states.
  • Added explicit v1–v6 → v7 migration. Legacy candidates receive deterministic review metadata; no IDs or timestamps are invented.

Tests and results

CheckResult
npm run typecheckPASS
npm testPASS — 179 tests, 0 failures
npm run buildPASS
npm run budgetPASS — initial JS 195.0 KiB, all JS 277.9 KiB, CSS 16.2/18 KiB, hero 570.9 KiB
npm run test:visualPASS — 18 Playwright tests
npm audit --omit=dev --audit-level=highPASS (exit 0); 6 moderate advisories remain in the Sentry bundler path

New tests cover all eight contracts, padded-word rejection, candidate creation/supersede, accept/reject, acceptance-versus-approval separation, transitive stale approvals, base-version conflicts, sanitization, Markdown rendering, and unified/side-by-side diff consistency. No live provider inference was used.

Known limitations

  • The Markdown subset is intentionally small, not full CommonMark; raw HTML is never rendered.
  • Contract validation checks structure and topic coverage, not prose quality.
  • Visual snapshots do not yet capture a live pending-candidate state; that surface is covered by transition, server-render, and diff tests.
  • Legacy v6 pending candidates require a fresh revision before acceptance because their original base hash was not recorded.
  • CSS budget was deliberately increased to 18 KiB for the new review surfaces.
